On Leadership

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other,” according to John Kennedy. Leadership is an outgrowth of you, it is fueled by personal development; your own strengths, background, values, and view of reality. Although leadership begins with the self, leadership means expanding out of yourself as you become involved in creatively impacting your environment.

Purpose

Student Leadership and Organizations is designed to empower you, as a student leader, and to assist you evolve in your leadership journey. We believe you are a significant asset to your community, student organization, and university. Our aim is travel alongside you as you develop your strengths, explore new ways to contribute, enhance your self-awareness and assist you in the process. Accordingly, Campus Life, along with the larger Division of Student Life, offers an array of programs and services to facilitate your growth as a courageous leader. Whether you are an aspiring leader or an experienced leader, our opportunities will propel you to new heights.

Leadership Development is Self-Development

Humans are toolmakers. Mechanics use tools to repair an engine, artists use brushes to paint a portrait, physicists use computers to perform complex calculations. But the leader’s primary instrument is the self. Mastering the art of leadership means mastering the self.
